U.S Passport Holder
In order to clear the shipment from Indian customs the U.S. Passport holder must have PIO or OCI card (Issued by Consulate General of India)
Indian Passport Holder
Shipper should have stayed abroad for a minimum period of TWO years. Short visits into INDIA should not Exceed 180 day's (06 months) continuously.
Items allowed duty free
All old & used household and personal Effects, including furniture, kitchenware and small kitchen appliances, glassware, carpets and other normal household items are allowed duty free provided that they have been in owner's possession and use for at least one year.
Old and used household goods should not exceed a combined total value of Indian rupees 5,00,000.00 (US$ 10,000.00). If the owner imports more than one of the same item, then the second piece is charged at 35%.
Any other new household effects will be Duitable at 35%.
Items allowed on payment of duty: One of each type of major electrical Appliances and electronic items,whether old or new, is allowed, subject to Customs duty at 15%. These include items like.
• Air Conditioner
• Refrigerator with a capacity of more than 300 ltrs
• Deep Freezer
• Washer
• Dryer
• Dishwasher
• Microwave
• Electrical items like
• TV
• Stero (Music System)
• DVD
• Video home theater system
• Video camera
• Photocopier and fax
• Machine
The above electrical appliances including
Air shipment must not arrive in India prior to Owner's arrival in India since the Customs Authorities insist on presentation of the passport for verification.
The shipper must be physically present in India Before Customa clearance can be undertaken. The shipper should contact the destination agent Immediately on arrival for Customs paperwork and handing out the passport.
Duty free allowance:
• Person coming after 3to6 months will get INR 60,000 duty free.
• After 6 month to 1 year will get one lakh duty free.
• After 1yr to 2 yr will get 2 lakh duty free
• And under T.R. after 2 yr free of duty with no limit but duty charged on electronic 15% as usual. More items exempted from that.
